The Traffic Courts in counties throughout California processes Vehicle Code moving violations, as well as a variety of other infraction level violations and some city and county ordinance violations. If you have received a traffic citation, the clerk should send you a Courtesy Notice that includes the following information:
- the due date to pay or appear;
- the eligibility requirements to elect for traffic violator school (TVS);
- information regarding clearing a “fix-it” violation with proof of correction;
- instructions for payment by credit card; and
- instructions and information for a court appearance.
Traffic Courts in California deal with violations of traffic laws and other minor offenses. Traffic violations are considered “infractions.” Infractions can include, for example, speeding, automobile equipment needing repair, and stop sign violations. Traffic infractions are enforced by the issuance of traffic tickets (“citations”) by law enforcement officers. The punishments for traffic infractions include payment of fines and do not carry any potential jail or prison time.
You can visit the website of the traffic court to look up your next court date by your name or driver’s license number. Find information on how to pay the ticket or attend traffic school.
